About the South Australia Branch
IMarEST in South Australia is very active and holds regular activities such as technical presentations, site visits and social events throughout the year. As the branch is located close to naval defence ship building facilities many guest speakers come with an enriched international background. This provides our members with up-to-date information in their chosen field of science and engineering. Our members comprise of government employees, naval defence engineering, surveying, ship management and many others. The branch is very proactive in supporting members in continuous professional development and offering networking opportunities for various businesses. We assist with advertising opportunities and providing a hub for contacts at our events. All our events are in conjunction with the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA).
About South Australia
The principle location of the branch is in Adelaide the capital city of South Australia also known as “the defence state”. The state has an established defence presence, three world-class defence precincts plus a proven track record of delivering billion dollar defence projects. The state is the home of Techport Australia. This provides facilities for ship building, commercial and marine skilling centre and contractor/suppliers facilities, which centralises the engineering for the building of Australia’s future Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) projects. South Australia is also a major world leader in aquaculture activities. The SA Government’s SARDI aquaculture research facilities make significant contributions to Australia’s growing aquaculture industries. Aquaculture provides many opportunities for science graduates, seafood industries as well as many other commercial value adding opportunities.
