Tasmania Branch
The Tasmania Branch is the newest branch which held its inugural meeting in May 2009 at the Australian Maritime College (AMC) in Launceston, Tasmania. The Branch has an ideal mix of marine engineers from the National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics and marine scientists from the National Centre for Marine Conservation and Resource Sustainability division at the AMC. The Branch also has industry practitioners who are either at sea or land based.

Tasmania, called “the apple isle”, is the island state of Australia and the city of Launceston is host to the Australian Maritime College (AMC) - an institute of the University of Tasmania (UTAS) is amongst the top maritime higher education institutions in the world. The major shipbuilder is INCAT which conducts its extensive shipbuilding activity from Hobart and produces passenger vehicle ferries, including the world record holding Wave Piercing and K Class catamarans. Launceston is the host city for the ANZSPAC Divisional Council Meeting in November.
