Castrol Marine is proud to be an IMarEST Marine Partner, working together to highlight the need for investment in people, the marine industry’s greatest and most valuable asset. The recruitment, continued professional development and retention of skilled personnel is absolutely vital for an industry that has a plethora of opportunities for dedicated people, both at sea and on shore.
A major challenge currently facing the industry is the shortage of skilled, technical personnel. As ship operation becomes increasingly demanding, the need for advanced skills amongst crews is paramount. Failure to attract new, talented recruits to the industry could lead to inefficiency and have a negative impact on the competitiveness of shipping companies.
With this in mind, Castrol Marine launched the Castrol Academy in 2009, a modular based training programme, with online assessment and learning support, which is now helping our customers develop their personnel throughout the world. It is only by investing in our people now that we can ensure the future of our industry.
We also hope that Castrol Academy, and our partnership with IMarEST will help us to demonstrate the benefits and rewards of a career within the marine industry. This IMarEST publication, supported by Castrol Marine, provides careers information to help potential new recruits understand what the marine industry has to offer in the way of a rewarding, life-long career. Ours is an industry with a strong future providing a range of employment opportunities and we need everyone to help spread the message wider and deeper.
