Effective and environmentally responsible management of salvage and counter pollution operations and the dissemination of good practice are essential services to marine community and to the health of the planet. The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) is playing a key role.
IMarEST is the host of a new Special Interest Group (SIG) on Marine Salvage and Counter Pollution, which held its inaugural meeting on 25 February 2011.
SIGs are formed by IMarEST members sharing a common interest. They use certain facilities at IMarEST HQ, share knowledge among SIG members and disseminate that knowledge to a wider audience through IMarEST's extensive international network, including via a dedicated web page on the IMarEST website.
Although SIGs are essentially comprised of IMarEST members, on topics such as salvage and counter pollution, SIGs encourage participation by representatives from other relevant constituencies. As a neutral learned professional society, IMarEST and its Marine Salvage and Counter Pollution SIG will be useful to all stakeholders on salvage issues.
