NYK Line is adding KVH’s TracPhone V7 to more than 100 of its containerships. The decision to subscribe to the VSAT service was driven by the Japanese operator’s Innovative Bunker and Idle-time Saving (IBIS) project.
IBIS has the twin aims of reducing the fleet’s CO2 footprint and improving operational (and thereby commercial) efficiency. It calls for the delivery of real-time weather and sea current forecasts to vessels, as well as real-time ship/shore telemetry relating to key operating parameters for on-going analysis.
KVH’s Kevin Bruun says the improved connectivity provided by the mini-VSAT Broadband service will leader to greater and more efficient information sharing between ship and shore, as well as welfare benefits for on-board personnel.
The service is being provided by KVH’s partner, SKY Perfect JSAT, under the OceanBB brand name.
