The authors of thirteen presentations at the 9th International Naval Engineering Conference and Exhibition (INEC 2008) are in contention for the inaugural Sir Donald Gosling Awards. The Awards, open to INEC authors under the age of 40, for the quality of their paper and its presentation, consists of three prizes (first prize £5,000; second prize £2,500; third prize £1,500); these will be presented at the event being held in Hamburg, Germany 1-3 April 2008.

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) appointed Professor Yoo Sang Choo as its 106th President at its AGM today (13 March).  The first IMarEST member from the Far East to take on this prestigious role, he takes over the reins of office from Dr David Wynford (‘Wyn’) Williams CB, the National Hydrographer 2001-2006. Michael Everard has been appointed President-Elect.
