of the earth's surface is covered by water, you can
imagine the range of career opportunities available
in the marine environment. It not
only includes the transportation of goods and people
around the world, military
defence, shipbuilding and ship repair and equipment
manufacturers, it also includes
the exploration and production of oil and gas and
other minerals, and the
environmental issues relating to all the above. Therefore
it is not surprising that the
marine environment covers a vast number of different
industries that form a huge
and highly important sector.

These events are aimed at undergraduates and post graduate students already studying on marine related courses. It is free of charge, with students able to listen to different presentations, speak to marine employers, take part in speed networking activities and one-on-one advice in topics such as CV writing workshops, as well as finding out about employment opportunities and vacancies marine employers are offering. Those who want to take part are encouraged to register online or by email beforehand.

Our next event will be held during Spring 2008 in Aberdeen. Aimed at under and post graduates, the day will consist of a series of short presentations preparing for the job market, mentoring and CV writing, as well as talking to marine employers bridging the gap between education and Industry.

As part of National Science & Engineering Week, the EYF series has become a key date in the diary of Greater London Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges. The EYF during National Science & Engineering Week, is jointly co-ordinated and sponsored by Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST), the Merchant Navy Training Board, Set Point London East, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
This one day careers event is aimed at pupils between 17-18 years old who are studying science, maths or engineering at GNVQ or A-Level. Attendance is FREE for all participants and the days provide an opportunity for pupils to learn about marine engineering, science and technology careers
