The marine environment is
a wonderfully diverse and exciting world with many and varied
opportunities, and there are numerous sources of information,
including the IMarEST brochure 'Careers in marine engineering,
science and technology ' which may help to guide you in
deciding which particular area you would like to get involved
in and how best to pursue your particular interest. However,
what better advice than hearing what young people working
in the marine environment itself have to say about their
industry?
A range of examples from
individuals who are currently employed in, or aspire to
a career in, the marine environment are illustrated below.
In each profile the individual explains how they became
interested in the marine environment as a young person,
what inspired their interest or who influenced them, the
key challenges they face, and the qualities needed to help
them to do their job successfully. They also describe some
of the highs (and lows), discuss job satisfaction and rewards,
and foresee the possible challenges that lie ahead of them
as a young marine professional.
If you would like more
details concerning a particular career profile or would
like to ask any of the individuals further questions, please
contact the IMarEST directly on info@imarest.org.
