Members are required to make a personal commitment to live by
the appropriate codes of professional conduct, recognising
their obligations to society, the marine professions
and the environment.

Corporate members shall at all times so order their
conduct as to uphold the dignity and reputation of their
profession; and to safeguard the public interest in matters
of safety, health and the environment or otherwise. They
shall exercise their professional skill and judgment
to the best of their ability, and discharge their professional
responsibilities with integrity.
All members of any category shall order their conduct
so as to uphold the dignity and reputation of the Institute
and shall observe the provisions of the Charters and
these By-Laws.
For the purpose of ensuring the fulfillment of the requirements
of paragraphs (1) and (2) of this By-Law, but without
prejudice to their generality, the Council may make,
vary and rescind Rules of Professional Conduct to be
observed by members of all categories with regard to
their conduct in any respect which may be relevant to
their positions or intended positions as members of the
Institute and may publish directions or pronouncements
as to the specific conduct which is to be regarded as
proper or as improper as the case may be. No such Rule,
variation or rescission shall be in any way be repugnant
to the Charter or these By-Laws or to the Laws and Statutes
of the Realm.
The Council shall make Rules for the enforcement of
the provisions of paragraphs (1) and (2) of this By-Law
and the Rules of Professional Conduct referred to in
paragraph (3) of this By-Law which shall include in respect
of any person who is alleged to have contravened any
such provisions or Rules, the right to be heard, to be
represented at any hearing, to cross examine witnesses
called against him and to call witness on his own behalf.
