How to apply for IMarEST membership (students and recently qualified people, please click here)

  1. Fill out the Elective Member application form and send in the appropriate fee to the Membership Department.
  2. You will then have access to the benefits and services of the Institute.  If you are eligible, the membership department will contact you later about upgrading your membership to a Corporate (i.e., professionally recognised) category. If you prefer to apply for a Corporate (professionally recognised) category of membership from the outset, please see below.

If you wish to apply for a Corporate (professional) category of IMarEST membership from the outset, you should:

  1. Identify an appropriate referee - a person of standing in the marine community to whom reference can be made, who can support your candidature and verify the details in your application. This should be a responsible person to whom you and your work are well known, for example your direct manager, a senior industry colleague, a current Corporate Member of the IMarEST, or similar.
  2. Download, complete and send off IMarEST's 'Application for Election or Transfer' form with the appropriate fee.
  3. Prepare and submit a written report that summarises details of your academic achievements and technical (or scientific) and professional training and experience, demonstrates your professional competence and commitment, and outlines your plans to maintain your competence. Click here for more detail on how to prepare your application and the written report.
  4. Be prepared to attend a Professional Review Interview/discussion if invited to do so by the Membership Committee.

See an application check list.

If you wish to apply for a non-Corporate category of membership, please complete the appropriate application form.
