Although there are no academic requirements for Corporate Membership of the IMarEST (competence and commitment at the appropriate level are the only pre-requisites), there is an academic requirement if you are seeking registration.
Academic qualification requirements vary according to type of registration being sought. Details of exemplifying qualifications for each category of Registration can be found below. Engineering Technician (EngTech)
Marine Engineering Technician (MarEngTech)
If you are seeking Engineering CouncilUK registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or IMarEST registration as a Marine Engineering Technician (MarEngTech), you will need to satisfy the Membership Committee that you meet the standards of competence and commitment for Associate and you will additionally require a qualification at the following level:
A National Certificate or Diploma, or
An approved qualification at level 6 in the Scottish Qualifications framework, or

A City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma, or
-
A technical certificate as part of an approved Advanced Modern Apprenticeship, or
-
An approved level 3 NVQ or SVQ, or
-
A work-based learning route approved by the IMarEST, or
-
Be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and understanding.
Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
Incorporated Marine Engineer (IMarEng)
If you are seeking Engineering CouncilUK registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or IMarEST registration as an Incorporated Marine Engineer (IMarEng), you will need to satisfy the Membership Committee that you meet the standards of competence and commitment for Associate Member and you will additionally require:

An accredited or approved Bachelor Degree, or

An accredited or approved Foundation Degree or Higher National, or equivalent, with appropriate further learning to Bachelor Degree level, or
-
Be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and understanding.
Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Chartered Marine Engineer (CMarEng)
Chartered Scientist (CSci)
Chartered Marine Scientist (CMarSci)
Chartered Marine Technologist (CMarTech)
