HURRICANES ON THE SUPPER AGENDA AT IMarEST
Only a month into the 2008 hurricane season, Dr William ‘Bil’ Loth CEng, FIMarEST, Managing Director of WD Loth & Company Ltd, and a Past President of IMarEST, takes a timely look at ‘Hurricane damage to Gulf of Mexico offshore facilities and recovery’ at the inaugural Supper Meeting of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in London on 2 July.
“We are delighted to launch our series of Supper Meetings with Bil Loth as our guest speaker, he will provide delegates with a fascinating insight into the aftermath of hurricanes,” explains Keith Read CBE, chief executive of IMarEST. “Then, after the lecture, delegates are in for a real treat thanks to our talented chefs.” We are looking forward to an intriguing and highly topical series of Supper Meetings over the coming months.”
Renowned as a specialist in underwater and structural engineering, Bil Loth’s talk will span a number of hurricanes including Ivan (Sept. 2004), Katrina (August 2005), and Rita (Sept. 2005), focussing on the types of damage, typical salvage and repair activities for different parts of the infrastructure; and the abandonment of wells from failed facilities.
The Supper Meeting will be held at the City Conference Centre (IMarEST headquarters) at 80 Coleman Street, London EC2R 5BJ. The evening will start at 17.00 when the bar opens, the lecture begins at 18.00 and supper will be served at 19.00. Both chefs at the City Conference Centre are Masters of the Craft Guild of Chefs and following each meeting in the series they will prepare a two course supper.
