What career opportunities in the marine world are open to graduates?

Date: 3rd December 2007

You might find it interesting to attend and report on next week’s Marine Career Opportunities day…..  This is a one-day event taking place at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton on Wednesday 21 November between 10.30 and 16.30.

It is aimed at under/postgraduates to enable them to look at the employment opportunities that UK marine companies have on offer by means of a series of presentations in the morning, followed by skills workshops run by different organisations, along with exhibiting companies.

As you will read in the attached programme careers in marine engineering and technology and in marine science will all come under the ‘career spotlight’ with helpful presentations on a wide range of opportunities including marine law; marine leisure; the shipping industry; defence engineering and technology; ports and harbours; oceanography, climatology and marine meteorology; marine environmental monitoring, marine geology and oceanography; fishing, aquaculture and biotechnology --- oh the list is long and fascinating!

The highly valuable day is organised by the IMarEST (Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology) in conjunction with SUT (Society of Underwater Technology), the Challenger Society, National Oceanography Centre and Castrol Marine. You will find more information at http://www.imarest.org/events/careers which is the address to use for registrations.
