Marine forecasting is the topic for the first joint meeting of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and the Royal Meteorological Society. The free-to-attend afternoon meeting will be held on Wednesday 17 January (start time 14.00) at the Zoological Society of London Meeting Rooms at London Zoo.
Following an introduction by Professor Geraint Vaughan, President of the Royal Meteorological Society and Dr Bev Mackenzie, the meeting on 17 January features presentations on:
- Operational storm-surge modelling in the UK - Kevin Horsburgh (POL)
- Operational wave forecasting and extreme events - Peter Janssen (ECMWF)
- Oil spills prediction - Simon Rickaby (DV Howells)
- Waves, tides and coastal defences - Alan Brampton (HR Wallingford)
- Offshore structures and extreme weather - Colin Grant Metocean (Advisor, BP Exploration and Production)
"We hope this will be the first of many meetings with the Royal Meteorological Society," says IMarEST's Manager, Marine Science and Technology, Dr Bev Mackenzie. "The January event clearly shows the synergy between our organisations and membership. Peter Janssen of ECMWF and I had a highly enjoyable and stimulating time putting the programme together and look forward to working together increasingly in the future."
All are welcome at the meeting, no pre-registration is needed. Further information and travel information at www.imarest.org/events/event.asp?ID=5070 and from bev.mackenzie@imarest.org
