Event: IMarEST President's Day Forum - 'Energy the Future'
Date: Tuesday 10 October 2006
Venue: City Conference Centre, 80 Coleman Street, London EC2R 5BJ
Further information: www.imarest.org

'Energy the Future' will be the topical theme considered in the Annual President's Day Lecture, a high spot in the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology's (IMarEST) calendar. This year's President's lecture, on the evening of Tuesday 10 October, will take the shape of a forum on the highly topical subject of energy issues facing the UK.

A panel of three speakers will deliver addresses on energy issues for the nuclear, renewable energy, and oil and gas industries. Then the Forum, chaired by IMarEST President, David Cobb CBE, will open up for what is expected to be a lively discussion period.

Dr Robert Hawley CBE, Former Chairman, Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council will address nuclear energy issues; Rob Hastings, Director of Marine Estate, The Crown Estate (formerly Director of Shell WindEnergy Ltd) will give his view on renewable energy issues; and Richard Paniguian, Group Vice President for Africa, Middle East, Russia and Caspian Region, BP plc will speak for, and about, the oil and gas industry.

"With such a strong panel talking about this highly topical subject, we are looking forward to having a particularly full house on 10 October," says Keith Read CBE, Chief Executive of IMarEST. "The future of energy here in the UK is vital to every one of us in both our business and private lives, and we know that it is a subject in which IMarEST members are extremely interested. In deciding on a Forum for the President's Day Lecture, David Cobb has broken the mould. We commend him for this interesting and highly relevant departure, and look forward to a stimulating evening."

Attendance at the President's Day Forum, being held at the City Conference Centre, 80 Coleman Street, London EC2R 5BJ (the headquarters of IMarEST) is free of charge to members and non-members of IMarEST, however, reservation of a place is recommended. Tea will be served from 1700, the President's Forum will begin at 1730 with discussion from 1830. Following the Forum, a buffet reception with wine will be held in the Ocean Suite for all who attend.

"We believe these networking post-Lecture, or in this case Forum, sessions are extraordinarily worthwhile, enabling members and non-members to meet old friends and make new contacts while reliving the discussion points of the evening," explains Keith Read.

There are three methods of reserving a place for the Forum. You can reserve a place online at www.imarest.org/events/president/ or download and complete a form from the same web address; or email: sarah.alexander@imarest.org to say you will be attending.
