News that BP Shipping and SMI have joined the innovative
Marine Partners Programme initiated by the Institute of
Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) brings
the number of members of the scheme, launched earlier this
year, to nine.
The Marine Partners Programme is designed to encourage
organisations active in marine engineering, science and
technology to work closely with the Institute promoting
the importance of the marine sector to the wealth of the
economy globally. IMarEST is exhibiting on Stand F1/G1 at
ShipRepair and Conversion London and looking forward to
talking to more potential Marine Partners.
“The Marine Partners Programme is designed to allow
companies, organisations and academia to become involved
in the work of the Institute - the leading professional
membership body and learned society for all marine professionals
- and to promote the sharing of knowledge and expertise
generally, while also developing the professional competence
of their staff,” explains IMarEST’s Director
General, Keith Read, CBE. “We are confident that those
organisations who have joined the scheme are already reaping
considerable benefits.”
Let’s work together
“Our Marine Partners are able to take advantage of
a wide range of benefits. It is vital that as an industry
we get over a really strong message about the importance
and value of the marine sector and offshore area in particular
to the world economy – we need a global team spirit,
we need to work together, and we believe that Marine Partners
is a valuable step in the right direction!”
Current Marine Partners, including the two newly joined
organisations, are:- Andrew M. Jackson; BMTDSL – BMT
Defence Services Ltd; BP Shipping; Lloyd’s Register;
Novar Marine; QoSL, Rolls-Royce plc; Royal Academy of Engineering
Headstart Programme; Scottish Association for Marine Science;
and SMI.
There are currently more than 15,000 individual members
of IMarEST. These members are based around the world and
are involved in all aspects of marine engineering, science
and technology disciplines. The Marine Partners scheme allows
companies and organisations to benefit from the advantages
that individual members have been enjoying – with
many new additions, and is ideally suited for organisations
involved in maritime disciplines such as subsea engineering;
offshore engineering; shipping; ship building, repair or
design; oceanography; ocean science or hydrography.
Benefits of the Marine Partners scheme
There are benefits in plenty for companies and organisations
joining the Marine Partners scheme. In broach outline, these
include
• High profile sponsorship, advertising and branding
opportunities
• Networking in a technical and professional global
environment
• Access to marine technical support and information
• Employee development and benefits
• Partner discounts
“This is only the beginning of the programme but
we believe that as it develops it will become a vital and
vibrant hub for all those Engineering, Science and Technology
organisations of whatever type connected to the sea,”
says Keith Read.
