IMarEST,
the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology,
congratulates Sea Vision UK on winning the Desmond Wettern
Media Award. The Award - an engraved ship’s decanter
and a cheque for £1,000- was presented by First Sea
Lord Admiral Sir Alan West KCB DSC on behalf of the Maritime
Foundation, at a glittering dinner held on board the 'Silver
Sturgeon' on the River Thames on 11 November. |
The Award was made in recognition Sea Vision's
pre-eminent role in promoting maritime affairs at both national
and regional levels. Receiving the award, Manuela Sarris,
Campaign Development Manager, said "I am absolutely delighted
to accept this Award on behalf of Sea Vision UK. The campaign
success comes from the ongoing support of our partners - without
their belief and efforts in the campaign we would not have
achieved our progress to date."
“This is a well-deserved award,” says IMarEST
Director General, Keith Read CBE. “We are thrilled for
the organisation, for Manuela who is a Chartered Engineer
and a Member of the Institute and who, before joining Sea
Vision, was IMarEST’s Manager, Engineering Science and
Technology. We are delighted to be a Sea Vision Partner, and
fully supportive of their work.”

Sea Vision UK, launched in January 2003, is
the national campaign to promote the importance of the wider
maritime sector and attract young people to the range of
exciting careers available. The campaign is incredibly broad,
bringing together some 140 partners – including IMarEST
- from all sides of maritime UK - from leisure boating to
the Royal Navy, diving to ship broking, offshore oil and
gas exploration to the environment, shipping to search and
rescue.
Sea Vision is a strategic partner in SeaBritain 2005 and
is working closely with this year long initiative which
will commemorate the bi-centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar
and celebrate the influence of the Sea on our maritime nation.
Guest speaker at the glittering dinner, attended by some
150 guests including senior members of the Royal Navy, maritime
industries and the media was Christopher Lee, the renowned
author and historian best known for writing 'This Sceptred
Isle'. Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal, Chairman of the
Trustees, presided at the dinner.
