Volume 1 number 1 (February 2008) – contents

• Operational Oceanology is a fast growing field of science to which both academic research and operational research are making significant contributions. Given a newly developing field, and a growing population of researchers and practitioners, it seems timely to provide a specialist journal addressing the needs of this new community so as to offer a means of clustering the growing numbers of papers in the field.

• The new journal will be a suitable vehicle for publishing papers on a wide variety of fields including, but not limited to

Numerical Weather Prediction

Development of Climatologies

Implications of Ocean Change

Ocean and Climate Forecasting

Ocean Observing Technologies

Eutrophication

Climate Assessment

Shoreline Change

Marine and Sea State Prediction

Model Development and Validation

Coastal Flooding

Reducing Public Health Risks

Short-Range Ocean Forecasting

Forces on Structures

Ocean Policy

Protecting and Restoring Ecosystem health

Controlling and Mitigating Natural Hazards

Safe and Efficient Marine Operations

The Journal of Operational Oceanography will also publish papers which address the requirements of the:

Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS)

Global Climate Observing System (GCOS)

Global Monitoring  for Environment and Security (GMES)

Global Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS)

The Journal of Operational Oceanography will also publish papers which address the needs of one or more of a wide range of end user communities including

Shipping

Marine Energy

Weather Services

Fishing

Port Management

Wastewater Management

Search and Rescue

National Security

Charting and Navigational Services

Public Health

Conservation

Insurance and Re-insurance

Recreation and tourism,

Marine Mineral Extraction

Environmental Regulation

Education

Aquaculture

Coastal Management

•This journal offers a forum for publishing papers originating in the commercial sector, as well as for those from academics developing techniques for applications.

•The JOO will initially be published twice annually in February and August and will be available in full colour hard copy and electronically via the Ingenta Connect service
