As a learned society, the IMarEST is committed to collecting and disseminating information from the worlds of marine science, engineering and technology. This page includes information on Marine Science publications, working groups and branch activities and the marine science forum.

Publications

For those people working in the fields of oceanography, marine chemistry, geosciences, hydrography, ecology and marine management to name but a few , the marine scientist makes for essential reading. Written by marine scientists for marine scientists the new professional science journal of the IMarEST is researched and written by individuals with a wealth of experience in the maritime field.

Previous issues have included interviews with respected marine scientists such as David Bellamy who urges us to stop Fishing, Eric Wolanski who talks about computer visualisation and multi disciplinary ecosystem modelling and Professor John Shepherd who explains why he feels marine science is undervalued. Features cover topics such as marine renewables, reef watch, observational oceanography, ocean education, pollution and physical oceanography. The Marine Scientist will regularly contains news, debates and views from the scientific community, reader letters, job advertisements and event listings.

Branch Activities and Special Interest Groups

The Institute's international dimension is reinforced by the activities of its 5 Divisions and 47 Branches which are located across the globe. The branches play a vital role within the Institute by promoting technical activities through meetings and conferences and by developing links with IMarEST members, other professional bodies, government, schools and industry at local level. The Institute has also developed an extensive network of Corresponding members to provide a focus for those members located in a region without a branch.

The IMarEST also hosts a number of special interest groups and working groups such as the Small Ships Group and the Young Marine Professionals Network. We are committed to expanding existing groups and developing new groups. To get involved please contact bev.mackenzie [at] imarest [dot] org
