Date of Birth: 30th November 1958 (46)
Occupation: Managing Director
Commenced my seagoing career in 1975 as an engineering officer
cadet with British Chemical Tanker Company Panocean, obtaining
a Class 1 Certificate of Competency in 1985.
Following a two year period ashore as a Design Engineer, I
returned to sea with John Frederiksen’s Seatankers and later with
Columbia Ship-management, Cyprus, sailing as Chief Engineer on
chemical tankers and OBOs then promoted to Technical
Superintendent in 1991.
In 1993 I took the position of Technical Manager with C F
Ahrenkiel, Cyprus, and by the time I returned to the UK in 1998
was in charge of the technical operations of a fleet of 21 vessels,
including LPG carriers, chemical tankers, container vessels, reefers
and PCCs. Since 1998 I have worked with Dorchester Maritime
Limited (DML) in the Isle of Man, being promoted to Operations
Director in May 1999 and Managing Director in Sept 2005. DML
is part of the Schulte Group and currently manages a diverse fleet
of over 80 vessels, including FPSO’s LNG and LPG/Ethylene carriers, chemical tankers and oil tankers and is deeply involved with
several LNG, LPG and chemical tanker new building projects.
As Managing Director, I have overall responsibility for ensuring
proper corporate governance and the safe and efficient management of the Company and Fleet, which employs over 90 office
staff and manages in excess of 1,500 sea staff.
Electoral Statement: I would like to help ensure that The Institute’s
traditional membership base of current and former seagoing engineers
do not feel marginalised by the recent diversification strategy. By joining the Council I will be better placed to bridge the communication
gap that exists between many such members and the decision-making
body of The Institute.
