The Stanley Gray Silver Gilt Medal is awarded to the best paper submitted for publication following the awarding of the branch certificate (see branch certificate criteria). The medal is awarded by IMarEST Council following recommendation from the Publications Supervisory Board. Joint authors are eligible but only the lead author will receive a medal for any one paper.
- Authors must be in receipt of a branch certificate awarded in the year of submission of their paper
- Papers must be submitted in accordance with the author guidelines for the Journal of Operational Oceanography and the Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology and should be of a quality equivalent to papers published in the IMarEST journals.
- Judging is undertaken by the Publications Supervisory Board who consider each paper for each of the below and then made a recommendation of which paper should receive the award to IMarEST Council

- Accuracy of Content
- Originality & Innovation
- Completeness & Consistency
- Presentation & Clarity
Medals will be awarded to one named author and a cash prize of up to £500 will be awarded to the named author to support their attendance at the IMarEST Annual Dinner.
All winners of branch certificates will be contacted by the 15th September each year and invited to submit a technical paper based on their presentation by 31st December of that year.
