Solent University recently opened their new Ship Simulation Suite. This has a range of facilities, including bridge simulators, an engine control room simulator, an onshore and offshore crane simulator and liquid cargo operations simulators.
This talk will cover the use for training seafarers and also the virtual shipyard technology, allowing the simulation and analysis of ships at the design stage.

Event speaker: Jonathan Ridley, Southampton Solent University. Jonathan started his career at the Defence Evaluation Research Agency (DERA) and later QinetiQ at Haslar. Following this Jonathan joined Warsash Maritime Academy, teaching naval architecture and ship stability on both the navigation and engineering programmes to both cadets and senior officers in the Merchant Navy. In 2014, Jonathan co-authored 'Reeds Volume 13 Ship Stability, Powering and Resistance', part of the renowned Reeds Marine Engineering and Technology Series.
