Western Joint Branch Lecture: Ocean Plastics

Plastic pollution is the most widespread problem affecting the marine environment; its spread across coasts, open water and the sea floor creates navigational hazards for shipping, operational risks to fishing and shipping activities, harms marine wildlife through entanglement, choking and poisoning, and can even act to transport potentially invasive marine species. This presentation will discuss sources of marine-based plastics and consider the regulations already in place and pathways contributing to marine-based littering in order to assess how effective these regulations have been, and where improvements might be desirable.

Open to all IMarEST members, their guests, non-members and students.
