The Steam Ship Freshspring is the only surviving example of the 14 Fresh class water carriers built by Lytham Shipbuilding and Engineering Co for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). This lecture will cover the general history of the SS Freshspring, her importance nationally and the progress made since she has been in our ownership. The talk will also include discussion around futureproofing the ship by considering diesel electric hybrid propulsion and alternative fuels, to include her potential future role.

John Puddy started his career as an apprentice with EMI electronics. John set up the first stand-alone wind/diesel installation in England whilst working as a shipyard engineer at Nicholson and Marshall. John was the Director of the Amber Foundation for 12 years and Director of Greenpower for 2 years. He started the Steamship Freshspring Society in 2013.
