The HUGIN Superior AUV system incorporates the latest in high performance Synthetic Aperture Sonar (HiSAS) technology to allow for increased survey accuracy and enhanced productivity during deep-water seabed survey operations. The HiSAS system delivers Micronavigation – using real-time processed SAS data - as an additional aiding input to the on-board Inertial Navigation System (INS) to bind drift during fully autonomous operations. This innovation results in an order-of-magnitude improvement in AUV navigation accuracy over long autonomous mission durations, removing the need for surface vessel ‘supervision’ to achieve enhanced survey accuracy. The HUGIN Superior HiSAS system provides high resolution imagery and bathymetry across a wide swath (up to 1km) offering enhanced mission productivity. Together with a unique subsea autonomous LARS system for ease of AUV deployment and recovery across an increased weather window, this significantly enhances survey efficiency.
