Solutions to the Problems of Implementing the Ballast Water Management Convention
Supported by the GEF-UNDP-IMO GloBallast Partnerships Programme
Following the ratification of the Ballast Water Management Convention, and with the shipping community potentially woefully unprepared, attention is now focused on its implementation.
To complement the ever-increasing commercially focused events on this topic, the IMarEST is taking a new approach. This conference, at IMO headquarters, will provide a highly technical look at the challenges faced and aims to give sound, objective advice on scientific issues.
The outcomes of this industry-leading event will inform policy makers and legislators in making effective decisions. They will also provide support to ship owners, operators and crew.
The IMarEST will produce a series of "How to do it" documents based on the submitted papers, subsequent review of those papers and incorporation of key points raised during the discussions.
Where appropriate these will be submitted to the relevant committee or sub-committee of the IMO in accordance with the IMarEST protocol on IMO representation.
No other ballast water conference offers participants such a unique opportunity to feed directly into the discussion on the technical, scientific and practical solutions related to implementation of the Convention.
Who will attend?
At the Ballast Water Technology Conference, you will meet and network with representatives from:
Shipowners, operators and managers
Flag and Port States
Shipbuilders and shiprepairers
Academia and the scientific community
Ballast water treatment system and service providers
Reduced rates for IMarEST members and members of Supporting Organisations.
Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities
Instead of adding to the increasing number of commercial events on this topic, the IMarEST, under the guidance of its Ballast Water Expert Group, is providing a highly technical look at the challenges faced in order to give sound, objective advice on scientific issues. This will be an industry leading event, the outcomes of which will inform policy makers and legislators in making effective decisions and provide support to ship owners, operators and crew.
