In Ukraine, there are about 200 ship engineers, professors, lecturers and students who are members of the Odessa branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.
Members of the IMarEST in Ukraine participate in the work of scientific and technical conferences, seminars and meetings in Ukraine, Great Britain and other countries. The committee of the Odessa branch finances carrying out scientific and technical actions and together with the administration of National University“Odessa Maritime Academy” awards the best works of professors and cadets.
Ukraine is a maritime country, situated on the coasts of the Black and Azov Seas. The country has a wide-spread marine infrastructure, which comprises 19 seaports, 11 shipyards (ship-repairing and shipbuilding plants). Four of nine international transport corridors established by Crete Conference under the auspices of the European Union pass through the territory of Ukraine. Odessa is the largest industrial, transport, scientific and cultural centre in the South of Ukraine and a maritime capital of the country. Traditionally, maritime sector is the key one in the economy of the region. High qualification level of our seafarers enabled Ukraine to be ranked among the five world's leaders as for the amount of officers in the Marine Fleet.
