The IMO & European Commission in their goal to reduce GHG emissions and improve energy efficiency in shipping in general, have issued regulations which requires ship operators to annually monitor, report & verify CO2 emissions for ships larger than 5000 GT. Commencing 1 Jan 2018, the reported CO2 emissions, together with additional data (e.g. cargo, energy efficiency parameters, distance sailed, etc) will be verified by independent verifiers and sent to a central database.
