Dubai, 22 September 2019
Following months of deliberation, an independent panel of judges for Seatrade Maritime Awards Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa 2019, shortlisted the IMarEST UAE branch in two (2) categories – ‘Education & Training Award’ and ‘Contribution to Development of the Regional Maritime Cluster Award’. The winners in the respective categories were Oman Ship Management Company and DP World.
The awards recognize an organization that has made major contributions to strengthening the links between the region's maritime elements including maritime education and training in the region. Judges were looking for examples of collaboration, excellence and thought leadership to better the prosperity of the regional maritime industry rather than individual profit or gain.
The UAE branch remains resolute in the IMarEST’s commitment to upholding the status, standards and expertise of marine professionals including real efforts to be all inclusive to drive growth of the maritime fraternity. The branch has augmented the development of marine engineering, science and technology within the regional shipping community. Until Sept 2019, eight IMarEST meetings have been attended by 1046 delegates and in 2018, eleven IMarEST meetings were attended, free of charge, by 1277 regional shipping professionals during which they were updated with latest progresses in maritime technology and regulations.
Notwithstanding the Arabian summer, the region’s most celebrated maritime awards program was held amidst a powerful network of 700 industry players at Dubai’s swanky Madinat Jumeirah hotel, hosted by international broadcaster, Tom Urquhart.
