The Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) is situated on a 68 acre campus in the pristine surroundings of Kuala Sungai Baru, Malacca - overlooking the busy Straits of Malacca.
Established in 1977 as the Malaysian Maritime Training Centre, it has developed into a respected institution of higher education. It is now a fully owned subsidiary of one of the World’s largest shipping conglomerates, MISC Berhad, which in turn is a subsidiary of the oil & gas giant PETRONAS.
ALAM is becoming a leader in maritime education and training (MET) and the Academy’s education system is one of the most fulfilling in the region - with a balance of professional regimentation and a challenging educational environment. ALAM’s ‘holistic’ system unites classroom learning, practical professional training and the development of ‘soft’ skills and values.
ALAM’s MET is supported by modern teaching facilities, and the expertise of its full-time local and expatriate lecturers & instructors – who have both professional and academic qualifications and extensive industrial and teaching experience. ALAM is therefore the maritime academy of choice for young school leavers in Malaysia and overseas who dream of a rewarding future as professionals in the maritime industry.
ALAM offers over 156 maritime related courses covering a full-spectrum, including mandatory STCW courses, marine engineering and nautical diplomas and bespoke courses as required by the maritime industry. Strong participation in IMO and other committees related to MET standards allows ALAM to ensure its programmes are kept updated. ALAM has also established formal links with many leading MET institutions in Philippines, South Korea, France, Singapore, China, Brunei and the United States of America.
ALAM has successfully guided thousands of young aspirants towards a rewarding and assured maritime career, and will continue to propel itself forward as the nerve centre for excellence in maritime education.
