In accordance with our Royal Charter, IMarEST is able to award suitably qualified and experienced applicants the title of Marine Technologist (MarTech), Registered Marine Technologist (RMarTech), Chartered Marine Technologist (CMarTech) and Registered Marine Scientist (RMarSci) for Scientists.
IMarEST is the only professional body in the world able to award these titles.
The 'IMarEST Competencies' document details the competencies you will need to display for successful application to MarTech, RMarTech and CMarTech (plus RMarSci for Scientists).
The assessment is made against standards rigorously applied by the IMarEST Professional Affairs and Education Committee (PAEC) and the Membership Committee, both Committees of IMarEST Council.

The Science Council's CSci Competencies
CSci represents, a single chartered mark for all scientists, recognising high levels of professionalism and competence in science. To qualify for the Chartered Scientist designation applicants must possess a combination of high-level scientific knowledge and experience. This is typically demonstrated by an accredited Masters qualification together with four years of post graduation-level experience sufficient to meet the CSci competencies.

The Engineering Council's 'UK-Spec' details the competencies you will need to display for a successful application to CEng, CMarEng, IEng, IMarEng, EngTech, MarEngTech.
The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) describes the value of becoming registered. It describes the requirements that have to be met in order to gain these qualifications, and gives examples of ways of doing this. UK-SPEC should enable individuals and employers to find out whether they or their staff can meet the requirements, and explains the steps necessary to achieve professional registration with the Engineering Council.

All marine professionals applying form membership at the grade of Associate Member (AMIMarEST) or higher must agree to abide by the IMarEST Code of Professional Conduct.
Prior to the Professional Review Interview all interviewees are asked to read and sign the Code
The signed document should be presented to the interview assessors prior to the commencement of the professional review interview (PRI).
The interview assessors will return the signed document to IMarEST together with the completed interview outcome report form. These documents will then be recorded on the applicants membership file.
