The Singapore Joint Branch of the IMarEST (Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology) and RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects) celebrated 60 years of supporting marine professionals in the region.
“This milestone is testament to IMarEST’s contributions in promoting scientific development in support of the maritime cluster in Singapore. In 2017, Singapore was named the ‘Leading Maritime Capital of the World’ by Menon Economics for the third consecutive time. These achievements are possible only through our collective pursuit of excellence. I thank each of you for your contribution.” Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health
The establishment of the Singapore Branch 60 years ago has been fundamental to the growth of the IMarEST in the Asia-Pacific region. The Singapore Joint Branch has supported marine professionals in the region through periods of political unrest and uncertainty, and this has only been possible thanks to the continued commitment and hard work of its branch officials, both past and present. The Branch has successfully delivered a range of activities including the OSV Singapore conference and exhibition, an extensive technical programme including lectures, panel discussions, and technical visits, the outstanding student achievement award, networking opportunities and social functions.
At the 60th anniversary celebrations, six long-serving and highly esteemed members were presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Cdre Rob Dorey RFA FIMarEST, President of the IMarEST. These were awarded to Anthony Richardson FRINA FIMarEST, managing director of SHIPTECH Pte Ltd, Charles Foo FRINA FIMarEST who had served at Lloyd’s Register and as managing director of KHZ as well as Chair of the Singapore Branch, Choo Chiau Beng FRINA FIMarEST of Keppel, David Chin Soon Siong FIMarEST who was Director-General (Trade) in Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Kenneth Lee FIMarEST who is currently a Technical Advisor at Hong Lam Marine Pte Ltd and Tan Kim Pong FRINA who was also previously a Chair of the Singapore Branch.
“Singapore has enjoyed top ranking as the leading maritime capital of the world, and with such a thriving maritime industry here, the IMarEST is proud to have sustained a dedicated ongoing presence both through the work of our local branch, and our regional headquarters established in 2012.” David Loosley, Chief Executive, IMarEST.
