The IMarEST has joined with the National Trades Union Congress, Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), Association of Singapore Marine Industries and Skillsfuture Singapore to curate key training initiatives and raise the employability of all local marine workers and equip them for Industry 4.0.
As the industry shifts with the introduction of disruptive technologies, such as additive manufacturing, process automation, artificial intelligence and moves into new growth areas such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and offshore wind sectors, there is an urgent need to upskill workers to cope with digital technology and advanced manufacturing trends.
The training initiatives aim to bridge gaps in four key areas and encompass horizontal skills to cope with digital transformation and vertical skills to deepen and specialise in industry. These include 1. advanced manufacturing skillsets, 2. digital readiness skillsets that raise digital literacy of all, 3. marine technical skillsets from local institutions and 4. masterclasses to impart new capabilities from overseas experts or practitioners.
The organisations will also collaborate to provide employment and employability solutions for the industry players to curate, adopt and deliver training to assist in the transformation of local working people.
As part of this initiative, the IMarEST is offering a variety of Masterclasses in Singapore:
