More companies, academic institutions and specialist organisations across the marine sector are turning to the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology to provide an independent assessment of their training courses to demonstrate that they can contribute to an individual’s continuing professional development (CPD).
Courses recognised in 2020 spanned a wide range of subjects, including marine HVAC systems, maintenance and management of subsea assets, bunkering, and the design, operation of FPSOs. Organisations the IMarEST has assisted include Seaflo Consultancy, Petrospot, City of Glasgow College, and Strucmarine among others.
Independent recognition by the IMarEST assures students and, in many cases, mid-career professionals wanting to develop their skills further that programmes have been evaluated by an impartial third-party and shown to meet the standards required to keep you developing in your career. Gaining CPD recognition from the IMarEST provides companies and other organisations a relatively straightforward way of enhancing their reputation and demonstrating their commitment to quality.
Charles Rieth, founder and operations director of Seaflo, a consultancy specialising in subsea asset management, said: “We wanted the training courses to be professionally recognised at the right level. Gaining endorsement from the IMarEST would be beneficial to us and the professionals enrolling on our courses.”
Dr Lakhvir Singh, managing director of the UK engineering innovation hub C4FF said gaining external recognition of all courses is an intrinsic part of its quality assurance programme to ensure that all content delivered to students satisfies industrial or specific academic requirements.
Benson Onyebueke, CEO of Strucmarine Engineering, an oil and gas consultancy based in Nigeria, which recently obtained CPD recognition of a course on FSPO design and operation, echoed the message: “The IMarEST is known worldwide for its assessment and accreditation services. Its trusted reputation across the industry will enhance our profile.”
