POSEIDON is a volunteering project for adult learners involving elderly people, environmental researchers (scientists) and biologists, as the two main target groups, together as agents of change both in the professional and non-formal education field.
POSEIDON was born in the Ionian sea thanks to the experience of CE.S.R.A.M. which conducted an important project in 2019 with the aim to save, recover and protect the marine species of the network "Rete Natura 2000". During one year the NGO with a team of marine biologists, researchers and divers worked in the sea to find, study and photograph the protected species Tursiops truncatus. The project also resulted in the cleaning of garbage from the seabed.
In the different contexts where the project takes place (Italy, Greece, Malta, Norway etc), environmental scientists (marine biologists/researchers/naturalists) welcome elderly people and new adult volunteers in general in their "science world" made of scientific terms, data, research, open spaces, observation, experimentation and passion for what they do. All of them together can be the new "planet savers" helping the next generation of kids and teenagers growing up to be marine scientists.
POSEIDON is a local volunteering project which becomes global and potentially wants to be a model for all the communities of citizens living on the sea and an example also for those who don't live in marine contexts to be aware of the richness and the preciousness we have and we mistreat.
POSEIDON is a strategic partnership in the field of adult education lasting 24 months which foresees the realisation of two intellectual outputs:
- POSEIDON Edu (an educational kit composed by a game for kids and cards to learn about the sea flora&fauna)
- POSEIDON app (to connect and continue to learn while observing and researching on the field)
Both Outputs are plurilingual with the aim to improve English language skills of biologists, elderly people and children.
Partners will realise three Transnational Learning Mobilities and two Learning Mobilities (POSEIDON sea camps) along with the 2 years project and many local activities to explore, research, recover and save the sea contexts, meeting outdoor also to make sport and learn how to conduct a healthier life at a local level.
