The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) is empowered to consider any matter within the scope of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) concerned with the prevention and control of pollution from ships. In particular it is concerned with the adoption and amendment of conventions and other regulations and measures to ensure their enforcement. The IMarEST is actively participating with the work of the Committee and is involved with the IMO work through our membership and our Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
This report provides a summary of the key discussions and outcomes of the 71st session of the MEPC together with an overview of IMarEST’s engagement in the work of this Committee. Part I of MEPC 71 overview covers the discussions related to Emissions. See Part II on the Ballast Water Convention and IMO Work Programme here.
