The Hydrographic Society UK has recently launched the Alan Ingham Award which recognises and rewards the very best research, innovation and application by students and recent graduates on relevant BSc, MSc and PhD courses in the UK and Ireland.
Amongst the prizes on offer to the winner are £500, the opportunity to have a paper based on their dissertation published in Soundings magazine and entry to the IFHS Student Award and the chance to attend the next Hydro conference, where they would present their paper to over 300 leading names within the profession. Up to two runners-up prizes are available, which also include the publication of these candidates papers in Soundings.
We believe that the Alan Ingham Award scheme offers students and graduates an excellent opportunity to get both their names and work seen by a far-reaching audience within hydrography and associated fields, which will undoubtedly benefit them when preparing their CVs and applying for jobs.
Entry for the Award is a two part process. In Phase 1 candidates are simply required to submit the completed entry form together with a 400-word summary of their dissertation studies/proposed paper. Up to six candidates will then be invited to submit their full paper in Phase 2. The eventual winner and runner(s)-up will be selected from these six candidates.
To enable us to publicise the launch of Award as widely as possible, the deadline for submission of entry forms and summaries has been extended (for this year only) to 31st January 2017.
Please would you take a few moments to read the attached brochure (available for download below) and forward this information to relevant students, 2016 graduates and any colleagues who might have contact with such students/graduates and encourage them to submit their entries before the end of January.
Hard copies of the brochure and entry form are available on request.
With kind regards,
