Globally, the natural oil and gas reserves found in deep sea sites are heavily exploited. Approximately 30% of worldwide oil and gas supply is sourced from offshore facilities and it has been predicted that production in the offshore industry will remain fairly steady in the coming years. Mature skills gaps already exist within the industry according to recent research with regards to the variation between onshore and offshore abilities.
Offshore oil and gas is focused on the maintaining of the oil and gas industry with changing oil prices alongside movement into new areas required for industry success.
This Special Interest Group is aimed at discussing the issues involved with the onshore-offshore skills gap, addressing the strict health and safety restrictions, handling the decommissioning of sites that are no longer viable and accessing new frontiers such as the deep ocean for exploitation.
