Intellian has run its first fully live system test at sea of Inmarsat's forthcoming Global Xpress (GX) broadband service. The South Korean antenna manufacturer says its new Ka-band GX60 and GX100 VSAT terminals performed 'exceptionally'.
The trial was carried out aboard container ship Hyundai Bangkok, which travelled from Busan in South Korea to Hong Kong, crossing the South China Sea. During this first live connection to the Global Xpress network, the GX60 and GX100 achieved a download speed of 24Mbps and an upload speed of 4Mbps.
Intellian CEO Eric Sung, who joined an Inmarsat team on board the vessel, commented: "We delivered video direct from the ship back to our colleagues exhibiting at the recent SMM Hamburg event."
Both terminals allow automatic satellite and beam switching for seamless GX coverage when crossing from one satellite coverage region to another. They also support a low elevation angle (-20°) capability to ensure reliable connectivity even at high latitudes.
