Caterpillar Marine has acquired the vessel condition monitoring and data analytics specialist ESRG Technologies Group. The deal includes ESRG's software suite for the remote monitoring and diagnostics of more than 65 onboard systems as well as the expertise to provide meaningful recommendations to shipowners to help increase efficiency, reduce downtime on their vessels and assist shipyards in reducing warranty expenses.
Virginia-based ESRG's remote monitoring tech was originally created to satisfy the needs of the naval sector, its biggest customer being the United States Navy, but in recent times the company has also marketed solutions aimed at the merchant fleet, notably OstiaEdge. The fact that Caterpillar also supplies a mixture of naval and commercial customers should not be disregarded.
"As a result of the ESRG acquisition, Caterpillar Marine is evolving beyond engine-focused monitoring to provide monitoring and diagnostic solutions for an entire vessel," Nigel Parkinson, Caterpillar Marine managing director noted.
"Our customers are asking for solutions to drive down operating costs and maintain up-time. Drawing on ESRG's experience, Caterpillar Marine can offer solutions to help them achieve this goal."
ESRG's products will henceforth be sold under the Caterpillar Marine Asset Intelligence brand.
