South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed agreements with leading marine equipment manufacturers to work on its cloud-based smart ship system, SVESSEL.
SHI will work with MAN Energy Solutions to enhance the main engines operations through advanced engine diagnosis and high-tech control technology.
It will also now work with marine gas and diesel specialist WinGD to develop remote engine diagnosis technology specifically for LNG-fuelled vessels.
"Equipment manufacturers are now actively participating in the technological development of our cloud-based smart ship system – and this will help us to provide more useful and diverse services to ship owners,” says Shim Yong-Lae, SHI's vice president of ship and offshore research.
“By solidifying the ecosystem where both shipbuilders and equipment producers coexist, we will take the lead in developing an innovative smart ship system."
