The international shipping exhibition, Posidonia – which was due to take place in June in Athens, Greece – has been postponed until October, due to the global coronavirus crisis.
“In view of the escalating challenges we all face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to safeguard the health and well-being of our exhibitors and visitors – while at the same time complying with WHO and Greek Government guidelines – we have decided to postpone Posidonia 2020 from the 1st to 5th June 2020 to the 26th to 30th October 2020 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo, together with all related Posidonia sports events and conferences,” said the organisers in a press statement.
The exhibition has long been established as one of the leading calendar events for the shipping industry.
Posidonia first took place in 1969 and has taken place every two years since then.
In 2018 it welcomed more than 2,00 exhibiting companies from 92 countries, and was attended by 23,000 visitors from 104 countries – making it the largest trade show to be staged in Greece.
The organisers added: “Given the uncertainty currently surrounding our original dates, the international character of Posidonia and the pressure our exhibitors and visitors are now under in actioning their travel and logistical arrangements as well as the shipment of their exhibits, we concluded that we could not delay this decision any longer.
“Over the next few days further details of our October schedule will be available on our website.”
