Lewis Hammell is a Chartered Engineer and Technical Manager with Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd. (CMAL). Lewis has worked with CMAL for 9 years, specialising in new vessel design and build projects for the Scottish West Coast and Northern Isles ferry services working from concept design through to vessel delivery/ in-service. These projects include all-electric/ battery hybrid, LNG dual-fuel, and Methanol ready vessels. Most recently Lewis has been working on the delivery of CMAL’s four Islay Class diesel electric battery hybrid sister vessels, currently under construction at Cemre Shipyard (Türkiye) and is leading on the flag ship Small Vessel Replacement Programme where a contract has recently been singed with Remontowa Shipbuilding (Poland) to build seven all electric vessels.

Graduate Environmental and Sustainability Consultant, BMT
Jack graduated from the University of Plymouth with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management and Sustainability, followed by a master’s degree in Environmental Consultancy from the University of the West of England.
Jack joined BMT Ltd as a Graduate Environmental and Sustainability Consultant where he supports the delivery of environment and sustainability projects across the defence and maritime sector. He has worked on a range of projects focused on environmental performance and his experience includes conducting environmental impact screening and scoping studies for maritime defence platforms, developing safety and environmental management plans, and supporting compliance with environmental legislation. Jack has experience and an interest in the role of digital technologies in driving sustainable operations, particularly the environmental implications of data-driven operations in maritime decarbonisation.

Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant, BMT
Rowan Wilkinson is a Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant at BMT Ltd, where she plays a principal role in delivering environmental and sustainability projects across the defence sector and beyond. Her work focuses on advancing environmental management practices and conducting lifecycle and environmental impact assessments for maritime platforms, systems, and services—particularly within naval shipbuilding.
Rowan is part of BMT’s growing Environmental Services Team, contributing technical leadership and strategic insight to projects that span defence domains, government departments, and international collaborations.
Prior to joining BMT, Rowan worked as an Environmental Officer aboard cruise ships, where she was responsible for regulatory compliance and sustainability initiatives at sea. She was also an Environmental Field Scientist on offshore survey vessels, gaining hands-on experience in marine data collection and environmental monitoring

Director of Standards and Performance, CalMac Ferries Ltd
Alex is the Director of Standards and Performance at CalMac Ferries Ltd. CalMac is the largest UK Domestic Ferry operator managing a fleet of 35 ferries across the West Coast of Scotland providing a lifeline service to island and remote communities. Alex is an ex Royal Naval engineering officer who served as a Chief Engineer on Nuclear Submarines and has worked at CalMac for the last 5 years in engineering and safety assurance. Alex’s role includes supporting the move of CalMac towards a net zero future, working closely with CMAL who own the vessels that CalMac operate.
