CMAL – A Journey to Net Zero

9.30am – 9.45am, 30 October 2025 ‐ 15 mins

Session One: Decarbonisation

CMAL (Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd.) are undergoing a significant fleet replacement programme, which will see CMAL take delivery of up to 20 RoPax vessels between now and the end of the decade. CMAL will provide an insight into the strides they are taking in their new vessel designs to achieve low/ zero emission ferries for the Scottish West Coast (Caledonian MacBrayne) and Northern Isles ferry services (Northlink). This includes diesel electric Hybrid vessels, methanol ready vessels, and the flag ship all electric vessels as part of the Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP), where a contract was recently awarded to build 7 of them. As the vessels enter the basic design phase, an in depth look into these new electric vessels will be provided highlighting the benefits as well as design challenges faced in creating the concept and the challenges anticipated in bringing them into service.
