Daryl Bangar

Director, Business Development, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

Daryl Bangar is Director of Business Development at ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), based in Houston, Texas. He leads ABS engagement with shipyards, vessel owners, and operators across North America, where his work centers on bringing next-generation technologies such as autonomous systems, remote operations, and alternative fuels into classed service.

Daryl brings over 17 years of experience in marine classification. Prior to joining ABS, he held survey, audit, and account management roles at DNV, including field assignments in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, as well as a seagoing secondment to Safmarine/Maersk aboard a container vessel. That combination of hands-on survey experience and commercial leadership shapes his practical perspective on how novel technologies progress from concept to classed, certificated operation.

He currently works closely with developers and operators of uncrewed and autonomous vessels on classification and certification pathways in the US market. Daryl holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is a member of IMarEST.
