Jiangsu Maritime Institute (JMI), established in Nanjing in 1951, is a pioneering public vocational college specialising in maritime education. It was the first institution founded under the People’s Republic of China dedicated to training ocean-going seafarers. It is also a key participant in China’s national “Double High-Level Plan” for high-quality vocational education.The institute has three campuses in Jiangning, Qinhuai and Banqiao, delivering industry-aligned education across six academic clusters: Navigation Technology, Port and Intelligent Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Shipping Economics and Management, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and Cruise Services and Art Design. Its 37 programmes support a full-time student population of more than 13,500.Rooted in professional maritime education standards and compliant with the STCW Convention, the institute has educated over 200,000 maritime professionals, establishing itself as a major talent base for the maritime industry.
