Denny Medal

The Denny Medal is awarded annually to the best paper published in each of the IMarEST's technical journals; the Journal of Marine Engineering and the Journal of Operational Oceanography.

Two Denny Medals are awarded each year to the lead authors of the best papers by the IMarEST Council, following reccomendations from the Publications Supervisory Board (PSB).

Medal-winning papers are nominated by the Editor-in-Chief(s) of the Journal of Marine Engineering & Technology and the Journal of Operational Oceanography to be approved by the PSB.

Lead authors of the winning papers are presented with the medal by the IMarEST President and also receive an invitation to the IMarEST's Annual Dinner.

How are papers chosen?

Papers must have been published in a complete issue, supplement or online issue of the Journal of Marine Engineering Technology (JMET) or the Journal of Operational Oceanography in the IMarEST membership year for which the judging is taking place.

Papers are selected according to:

  • Influence & Impact
  • Accuracy of Content
  • Originality & Innovation
  • Completeness & Consistency
  • Presentation & Clarity

Inscribed medals are awarded to the lead author(s), with individual authors all receiving a certificate.
