Robert Schmitz is Design Manager at Matrix Composites & Engineering in Perth, Western Australia. He leads the engineering design team responsible for Matrix’s subsea buoyancy and riser products. Since joining Matrix in 2019, Robert has led design and qualification of distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) and clamping systems for deepwater riser projects worldwide, including recent large pre-salt developments offshore Brazil. His work covers module and clamp design and qualification testing such as clamp slip resistance, hanging load and hyperbaric testing. It also covers installation tooling, procedures and site integration testing.
