Dr. Riaz Khan CEng FIMarEST – Senior Technical Advisor, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

Presentation: Structural Integrity Management (SIM) of Offshore Structures

Dr. Riaz Khan is a chartered engineer (UK) with over twenty-five (25) years of academic and industrial experience in the structural engineering discipline, with twelve (12) of those being the Custodian & Discipline Head (Structural Integrity) at PETRONAS, Malaysian National Oil Company. He is currently a Senior Technical Advisor at the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

He has key expertise in the structural integrity management of energy-related infrastructure including fixed offshore, floating, and onshore facilities in a variety of operating regions including the Gulf of Mexico, Latin America, Asia, and the Far East.   Dr. Khan also serves on several global professional bodies/committees.  He is also a Fellow of prestigious engineering bodies including the Institution of Marine, Science and Technology (UK), Institution of Engineering & Technology (UK), Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (USA).

Presentation: Nuclear Power in the Energy Transition

Peter is a member of the nuclear leadership team for Lloyd’s Register.  He has over 30 years of industry experience in the marine and offshore domains. He is a leader of high-performance technical teams and a practicing naval architect with experience in design, operations, asset integrity, risk management, and technology. Peter has extensive experience in bringing new technologies through regulatory and company processes for widespread use and provides advisory services at a principal engineer level in both marine and offshore areas. Current topics of work include design and construction build strategies, supercritical fluid systems, dynamic positioning, and integration assurance of complex systems. He delivers ways to increase the safety, environmental performance, and effectiveness of shipping and offshore projects for LR clients.

Dr. Bulent Mercan – Technical Advisor, 2H Offshore, Inc.

Presentation: Offshore Thermal Energy Conversion using HDPE Risers

Bulent is a Technical Advisor at 2H Offshore in Houston. With more than 15 years of industry experience, he is committed to delivering leading edge engineering solutions for offshore oil, gas and renewable energy assets. His responsibilities include project management, technical sales, and technology development, with a focus on structural integrity monitoring and fatigue assessment. In addition to his industry role, Bulent also has a passion for coaching young professionals in civil engineering. He serves as a part-time lecturer at the University of Houston, where he teaches structural engineering courses. He holds a PhD in civil/structural engineering from the University of Minnesota and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
