NavyX is the Royal Navy’s Autonomy, Lethality and Innovation accelerator, and as part of the Develop Directorate within Navy Command Headquarters it helps to develop the Navy after next. In Surface vessel autonomy, NavyX leads the Royal Navy’s development of uncrewed surface vehicles by testing and experimenting with our own autonomous small boats, MADFOX and APAC-24. As the Lethality Accelerator, NavyX is initiating the processes for developing, trialling and firing remotely operated weapons systems have not been tested within the Royal Navy. As an Innovation enabler more broadly, NavyX finds, develops and tests new and novel ideas to both support and challenge the Develop Directorate’s concepts and priorities. NavyX does this by utilising our Trials Ship, XV PATRICK BLACKETT, for experimentation, or by working alongside SMEs at BattleLab in Dorset to co-create novel solutions to some of the hardest problems.
The lecture will focus on the recent acquisition and entry to service lessons from XV Patrick Blackett, NavyX achievements with autonomy since the unit was formed in 2019, what else NavyX has helped to deliver, and what the future looks like to us (at the moment).
